Here's how student accounts work across schools
One account, every Knola school: how students sign in, how they move between creators they have bought from, and what their account page holds.
A student who buys from you does not get a Knola account for your school. They get a Knola account, which then holds your course alongside anything else they buy from any other creator. That is the thing to understand before you write your welcome email.
How they sign in
Your school has its own sign-in page, carrying your logo and reading "Sign in to" your school name. Three routes lead to the same account: Continue with Google, an email and password, or a magic link sent to their inbox for anyone who has forgotten theirs.
They only do this once. After the first sign-in the session sticks, which is why the access email a buyer receives drops them straight into the course rather than at a login screen.
One account, several schools
Because the account is theirs rather than yours, a student who has bought from three creators has one login for all three. The avatar menu in their top bar lists the others under My schools, with a label showing whether they are a learner or staff there, and takes them across in a click.
What does not exist is a single page listing every course they own everywhere. Each school is its own site, and that menu is the bridge between them.
What their account page holds
The Account page, reached from the same avatar menu, is deliberately small: "Manage how you sign in."
- Password: a button that emails them a secure link to set a new one. Nobody types an old password to change it, and you never see or reset it for them.
- Certificates: every certificate they have earned in your school, with its date and serial number, and a link to the public page for each one. It only appears once they have earned one.
There is nothing else on it. No profile, no avatar, no email change and no billing, which means almost every "how do I change my…" question a student sends you has a short answer.
The three questions you will actually get
- "I can't log in." Send them to your school's sign-in page and tell them to use the magic-link option. It works whether or not they ever set a password.
- "I paid with a different email." They will be signing in to an account with no courses in it. Add the address they actually use and they are in immediately.
- "Where is the course I bought from someone else?" In their avatar menu under My schools, or at that creator's own address. It is not missing, it is just not on your site.
Do students need a separate account for each course they buy?
No. One Knola account holds every course they buy from you, and from any other Knola school. They sign in once and switch schools from the menu under their avatar.
How does a student reset their password?
From their Account page, which emails them a secure link to set a new one. They can also use the magic-link option on the sign-in page, which gets them in without a password at all.
Can students see all their courses from different creators in one place?
Not on a single page. Each school is its own site, and the My schools section of their account menu is how they move between them.
